WORCESTER, Mass. - It was a solid day of action for the Mount Holyoke College swimming & diving team as they competed at day three of the 2017 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships on Saturday at WPI. After 26 events, the Lyons sit ninth overall with a score of 163.

Senior captain Emily Craig got things going in the 200-yard freestyle, posting a time of 1:59.86. That time ranked 17th overall as she competed in the evening's consolation finals. Sophomore Bri Groves then took to action in the consolation finals of the 100-yard breaststroke. She placed 18th in overall with a time of 1:11.42.

In the 100-yard backstroke, senior captain Anne Kuenning had the top individual finish of the day. Taking part in the consolation finals, she posted a time of 1:00.00 flat to finish 13th overall.

Rounding out the evening action was the 200-yard medley relay. The Lyons 'A' relay team of Kuenning, Groves, senior Katie Tyler and Craig were eighth overall with a time of 1:52.64 in the championship final.

The Lyons 'B' relay team swam in the consolation final, placing 19th overall with a time of 2:00.29. Comprising the relay team was sophomore Delany Berry, junior Claire Beckett, first year Natalie Burkett and sophomore Kate Flaherty.

MIT currently leads the field through the third day, posting 985 points. Host WPI is second with 518.5 points, followed by Wheaton with 496 points. Springfield (487) and Wellesley (348) round out the top-five.

Action at this year's championship concludes on Sunday with the morning preliminaries kicking off at 10am. The finals will take place at 6pm.
