POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Action at day one of the 2017 Seven Sisters Championships has concluded and through the opening two sessions the Mount Holyoke College swimming & diving team sits fourth overall. The Lyons complied 348 points on day one, led by strong individual and relay performances.
The 200-yard freestyle relay kicked things off, as the foursome of junior Claire Beckett, senior captains Emily Craig and Anne Kuenning, along with senior Katie Tyler finished second overall with a time of 1:44.70.
Kuenning went on to place sixth overall in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:37.50, while Craig was seventh with a mark of 5:40.50. First year Natalie Burkett also came away with a solid time, touching the wall in 5:52.91, which was good for 10th overall.
In the 50-yard freestyle, Tyler led the way in fifth with a time of 26.07. Craig was close behind in seventh with a mark of 26.45, while sophomore Kate Flaherty posted a mark of 26.78 to finish eighth.
Next up came the 400-yard medley relay, which was eighth overall with a time of 4:40.81. The relay team was comprised of sophomore Delany Berry, Beckett, Burkett and first year Sarah Ratzlaff.
In the 1-meter diving event, first year Samantha Nemivant had an outstanding effort. She posted fourth overall with a score of 417.15 points. That score was also an 11-dive qualifying mark for the NCAA Championships.
Session two opened with the 200-yard medley relay as the foursome of Kuenning, Beckett, Tyler and Craig once again combined for second overall. They finished with a time of 1:56.04.
In the 400-yard individual medley, Beckett was 10th with a time of 5:24.13, while Tyler placed sixth in the 100-yard butterfly with a mark of 1:03.90. The 200-yard free saw Craig finish fourth with a time of 2:03.80, while Kuenning touched the wall fourth in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:03.15.
The final event of the day saw Kuenning, Ratzlaff, Burkett and Craig combine for a time of 8:42.92 in the 800-yard free relay - good for fourth overall.
Wellesley currently leads the meet with 806 points, followed by Smith in second with 535 points. The host Brewers own a 479 points margin, while MHC (348) and Bryn Mawr (259) are fourth and fifth, respectively.
Action at this year's meet continues on Sunday beginning at 10am at Vassar College.
