Swimming & Diving Tripped Up at Westfield State

WESTFIELD, Mass. - Despite a three-win effort from senior Katie Tyler, the Mount Holyoke College swimming & diving team was unable to get past Westfield State University, falling to the Owls by a 163-125 margin on Saturday afternoon.

Tyler got her first victory in the 100-yard butterfly, touching the wall with a time of 1:04.88. She went on to grab the win in the 50-yard fly with a time of 28.52, following that effort with her third victory of the day in the 100-yard individual medley. That win saw her post a time of 1:07.21.

Also having a solid effort on the day was first year diver Samantha Nemivant, who swept the wins in the diving events. She recorded a score of 250.60 points in the 1-meter, before going on to win the 3-meter with a mark of 258.65 points.

Senior captain Anne Kuenning notched a win in the 100-yard backstroke, touching with a time of 1:04.46. She then finished second in the 50-yard back with a time of 31.36. Sophomore Kate Flaherty was runner-up in the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 35.40, while junior Amy Lim was second in the 100-yard breast with a mark of 1:23.08.

In the 200-yard freestyle relay, the team of Flaherty, Lim, junior Topaz Mukulu and Kuenning were runners-up with a time of 1:49.82, while in the opening 200-yard medley relay, the foursome of Kuenning, Flaherty, Tyler and senior captain Emily Craig also placed second with a time of 1:59.60.

Mount Holyoke returns to action next weekend when it travels to Wellesley College for a 1pm dual meet against the Blue. Action begins at 1pm.
