Swimming & Diving Garners NEWMAC Relay Team of the Week honors

BOSTON, Mass. - The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) has announced its weekly awards for the period ending November 6th and the Mount Holyoke College swimming & diving team saw four members recognized. The Lyons earned Relay Team of the Week honors after a record-breaking swim on the road last weekend.

Comprised of senior captain Emily Craig (Rochester, N.Y./Gates-Chili Senior), junior Topaz Mukulu (Nairobi, Kenya / Brookhouse International) and seniors Anne Kuenning (Bow, N.H./Bow) and Katie Tyler (Hadley, Mass./Hopkins Academy), the foursome claimed victory in the 200-yard freestyle relay to close out a 137-125 victory for the Lyons at the University of New England.

The group notched a time of 1:46.55, which not only earned them the win, but was also a UNE pool record. The previous mark of 1:47.55 was set back in January of 2009 by Roger Williams.

It was an outstanding victory for the Lyons, which also saw Craig record three individual victories (200-yd free, 100-yd free and 500-yd free), along with two individual wins each from Kuenning (50-yd back, 100-yd back) and Tyler (50-yd free, 50-yd fly). Both Kuenning, Tyler and Mukulu were part of the victorious 200-yd medley relay team, while Tyler set a UNE pool record in the 50-fly.

Mount Holyoke (1-1 dual meet) is back in the pool on Saturday when it travels to Westfield State for a 1pm tilt.
