BOSTON, Mass. – The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) has announced its weekly awards and Mount Holyoke College student-athlete Bri Groves was recognized. The sophomore garnered Swimmer of the Week honors for first time in her career after an outstanding week which saw her post six victories.

A native of Reston, Va., Groves recorded three individual victories in the Lyons tough 157-114 loss to Division II Assumption last Friday. She won the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:09.72. She went on to win the 100-yard butterfly with a mark of 1:00.77 before touching the wall first in the 200-yard individual medley. In that race, she posted a time of 2:15.77, which was nearly seven seconds faster than the second-place finisher from Assumption. Groves also helped the 200-medley relay team to victory in a time of 1:54.46.

Groves went on to post two victories at the Smith College Relays the following day. She helped the 200-yd medley (1:58.67) and 200-yd free relays (1:47.22) to wins, while also posting second in the 3x100-yd butterfly (3L30.38), the 400-yd medley (4:23.69) and the 400-yd free (3:56.86) relays.

The former South Lakes High School standout made a solid impact during her rookie season, posting a number of outstanding finishes. Among the highlights included the Seven Sisters Championship, in which she finished runner-up in the 200-breast, the 400-free relay and the 400-medley relay. Additionally, she helped the 800-free relay and the 400-medley relay teams to seventh at the NEWMAC Championships.

Prior to arriving at Mount Holyoke, Groves was a four-year member of the varsity swim team in high school, serving as captain. She was a VHSL VHSL state medalist, qualifying for states and Northern regionals all four years. Additionally, she was a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American and PVS Scholar All-American, as well as an NCSA Junior Nationals athlete.

Mount Holyoke is back in the pool on Saturday when it travels to the University of New England to face the Nor'Easters at 1pm.
