SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – Powered by a number of outstanding finishes the Mount Holyoke College swimming and diving team defeated Vassar College and Trinity College in tri-meet action on Thursday afternoon. The Lyons bested the Brewers by a 163-136 margin, while posting a 211-65 win over the Bantams. On the men's side, Trinity posted a 174-113 victory over Vassar.

Mount Holyoke opened the day with a victory as junior Anne Kuenning, first year Bri Groves, senior captain Sarah Crocker and junior captain Emily Craig won the 200-yard Medley Relay with a time of 1:55.70.

Senior captain Cathleen Pruden shined in the 1,000-yard freestyle, posting her second win of the week in the event with a time of 10:26.51. Her time was nearly a minute faster than the second-place finisher. In the 200-yard freestyle, Craig posted second overall with a time of 2:04.60, while sophomore Amy Lim was fifth with a time of 2:20.71.

Kuenning went on to claim victory in the 100-yard backstroke, touching the wall with a time of 1:02.43. Sophomore Claire Beckett also placed well in the event with a time of 1:07.85 – good for fourth overall. Groves then won the 100-yard breaststroke, beating out Vassar's Hayley Schultz by the slimmest of margins as she posted a 1:09.09, while Schultz had a time of 1:09.29.

In the 200-yard butterfly, senior Erica Carvell was second overall with a time of 2:24.77, while Crocker finished just behind in third, touching the wall with a time of 2:29.35. Junior Katie Tyler claimed victory in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.64, while in the 100-yard freestyle, Craig and Tyler were third (57.73) and fourth (58.01), respectively.

Kuenning notched another win in the 200-yard backstroke, dominating with a time of 2:17.62, which was nearly five seconds faster than the second place finisher. Beckett also placed well, hitting the wall in 2:26.32 for fourth overall.

Groves then grabbed the win in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:31.88, while Crocker was third in the same event with a mark of 2:39.48. Pruden claimed her second win of the meet in the 500-yard freestyle, hitting the wall with a time of 5:13.11. First year Delany Berry was also solid in the event, powering her way to fourth overall with a mark of 6:03.60.

In the 100-yard butterfly, Groves picked up her fourth victory of the afternoon, notching a time of 1:01.99. Tyler was third in the event (1:03.68), while Carvell swam to fifth overall (1:05.06). Rounding out the individual efforts was Pruden, who won the 200-yard Individual Medley in a time of 2:09.38, which was nearly 10 seconds faster than the runner-up. Crocker was fifth in the event with a time of 2:26.26.

The Lyons rounded out the afternoon with a win in the 400-Freestyle Relay as the foursome of Carvell, Tyler, Craig and Pruden had a time of 3:46.15 for the win, which was five seconds faster than the runners-up.

Vassar's Milee Nelson won the 200-yard butterfly in a time of 2:23.68, while the Brewers saw Sammy Stone win the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 55.87. In diving, Mia Moraru gave Vassar the clean sweep as she won the 1-meter with a score of 235.15 and the 3-meter with a mark of 220.00.

In the men's action, Trinity claimed victory in both relays, winning the 200-medley with a time of 1:40.42 and the 400-free with a time of 3:22.24. The Bantams saw first year Alex Wolfson win the 100-back (55.05) and the 200-back (2:03.30), while senior Nick Celestin was the victor in the 200-fly (1:56.34), the 100-free (49.51) and the 100-fly (52.32).

Mount Holyoke returns to action on Jan. 23-24 at the Seven Sisters Championship, hosted by Wellesley College. Vassar is back in the pool on Saturday in Clinton, N.Y., facing Hamilton and RIT (1pm), while Trinity is at Brandeis, also on Saturday (1pm).
