Pruden Concludes Season at NCAA Championships; Finishes 18th in 1650-Free

SHENANDOAH, Texas - Mount Holyoke College student-athlete Cathleen Pruden's journey at the 2015 NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships has concluded. The junior standout wrapped-up her second Nationals appearance on Saturday, competing in the grueling 1650-freestyle. The event was the third race during her time at Nationals, which also included the second All-America honor of her career.

Pruden (Raleigh, N.C./Ravenscroft School) finished 18th of 25 participants, just two spots shy of Honorable Mention All-America, in today's 1650-free, posting a time of 17:18.91. .

Overall, Pruden had an outstanding effort at this year's National Championships, earning her second straight All-America honor in the 400-individual medley. She finished eighth overall in her signature event with a time of 4:25.96. Pruden went into the evening finals seeded eighth as well after recording a time of 4:24.96 in the morning preliminaries.

Pruden, who finished fourth in the 400-IM a season ago, is the only Mount Holyoke College swimmer to finish in the top eight at Nationals twice. She is also just the second swimmer to earn All-America, joining Katie Herrold '00, who represented the Lyons in 1997, earning All-America Honorable Mention in the 1650-freestyle.

In addition to her swim's in the 400-IM and the 1650-free, Pruden also competed in the 200-individual medley on Wednesday evening. That event saw her place 26th overall with a solid time of 2:06.54.

Pruden secured her position at Nationals after having an outstanding effort at the NEWMAC Championships in February. During that meet, she was named the NEWMAC Swimmer of the Year after successfully defending her title in the 400-IM, while also winning the 200-IM and the 1650-free. She was one of just two swimmers and the only female athlete to win three events at this year's championship.

A dominant force once again for the Lyons this season, Pruden won 36 events, notching at least two victories in every meet she competed during the regular season. Thirty-one of the 36 wins this season were individual. In addition to re-setting multiple school records – of which she currently holds 13 – Pruden also achieved four NCAA B Cuts in three different events.

In her career, Pruden is a six-time NEWMAC and an 13-time Seven Sisters champion. She helped the Lyons finish fifth during her rookie season, while leading the squad to sixth overall in 2014 and seventh this season. Currently, Pruden holds 13 of Mount Holyoke's 23 school records for swimming.
