Pruden Tabbed NEWMAC Swimmer of the Week

BOSTON, Mass. – The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) has announced its weekly award winners and Mount Holyoke College student-athlete Cathleen Pruden has been selected. The junior was named the Swimmer of the Week after recording four first-place times in a 165-133 win over Smith in the season home finale.

The Raleigh, N.C. native, Pruden posted victory in the 1,000-freestyle, sporting a time of 10:28.91. That mark is her fastest time this season in that event. She went on to win the 200-breaststroke with a time of 2:26.26 and also captured the 200-IM with a mark of 2:11.28. Pruden also helped the 400-free relay touch the wall first with a time of 3:49.38.

This season, Pruden has won 33 events, notching at least two victories in every meet she has competed. Twenty-eight of the 33 wins this season have been individual. In addition to re-setting multiple school records – of which she currently holds 14 – Pruden has also achieved four NCAA B Cuts in two different events.

Pruden, who is a former standout at the Ravenscroft School, has now garnered Swimmer of the Week honors by the NEWMAC four times this season. She was previously honored on November 11th after posting five individual wins and a pair of relay victories in two meets, on January 20th following her performance in a tri-meet and at the Seven Sisters Championship and on January 26th after achieving three wins in a dual meet at Wellesley.

Mount Holyoke (6-4 dual meet) is back in action on February 19 when it travels to Worcester, Mass., to compete at the 2015 NEWMAC Championships. Action at the meet begins on Thursday and runs through Sunday.
