Squash Splits Matches with Georgetown and Chatham in Pioneer Valley Invitational

South Hadley, Mass. - January 16, 2022 - The Mount Holyoke College squash team split a pair of games this past weekend as part of the Pioneer Valley Invitational. The Lyons fell to Georgetown, 8-1, before defeating Chatham 6-1 on Saturday.

Against Georgetown, Mihiliya Kalahe (Panadura, Sri Lanka) was the lone victor as the senior cruised to a 11-3, 11-4, 11-3 win over Nina Thomas.

Kalahe was victorious against Chatham as well, knocking off Sofia Ramos in a five-game thriller 6-11, 14-12, 11-7, 7-11, 11-9. At No. 3, Giselle Cabrera (Bronx, N.Y.) won 11-3, 11-4, 11-2 against Yukta Rana, while at No. 4, Melissa Marquez (Waterbury, Conn.) won 11-3, 11-2, 11-3. At No. 5, Elba Barra Montgomery (Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania) defeated Farzeen Shaikh, 11-5, 11-1, 11-1, while at No. 6, Elena Frogameni (Florence, Mass.) claimed her first collegiate victory with a 11-1, 11-1, 11-0 victory over Bandhana Phuyal.

Mount Holyoke College will return to action on Saturday, January 22 when the Lyons travel to Hamilton for a 2 p.m. match.
