Squash Falls to No. 17 Tufts in Season Opener, 7-2

Cambridge, Mass. - November 17, 2019 - The Mount Holyoke College squash team played its first match of the 2019-20 season on Sunday morning as the Lyons took on nationally-ranked Tufts University, and fell by the score of 7-2 at the Murr Center Squash Courts on the campus of Harvard University.

Mount Holyoke College received a strong effort from the top of the line-up as Mihiliya Methsarani (Panadura, Sri Lanka) knocked off the Jumbos' top player Claire Davidson, 3-0, before Nadindhi Udangawa (Depanama, Sri Lanka) took down Isa Schneider at the No. 2 slot, 3-1.

At the No. 3 position, Maeve Watts-Roy (Louisville, Ky.) fell to Catherine Shanahan, 3-0, before Kuzivakwashe Madungwe (Harare, Zimbabwe) dropped a 3-0 decision to Megan Chen at No. 4. From there, Giselle Cabrera (Bronx, N.Y.) fell to Diya Sangi, 3-0, at No. 5, before Meli Marquez (New Haven, Conn.) suffered a 3-0 setback to Rachel Windreich at No. 6. 

Wrapping up at No. 7, Anna Braman (Wellesley, Mass.) dropped a 3-0 decision to Natalie Bartlett, before Janiqua Davis (New Haven, Conn.) lost a 3-0 decision at No. 8. Lastly, at No. 9, Elba Barra Montgomery (Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania) fell to Abhilasha Bhasin, 3-0.

Up next, Mount Holyoke College will turn their attention to St. Lawrence University, as the Lyons will take on the Saints at Amherst College on Friday, November 22 at 5 p.m.
