SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. - Despite several hard-fought efforts, the Mount Holyoke College squash team was unable to overcome an early deficit, falling to Amherst College, 7-2 at the Kendall Squash Courts on Wednesday evening. The 17th-ranked Mammoths move to 7-6 overall, while the 22nd-ranked Lyons are now 13-7 on the season.

Mount Holyoke saw its victories come from the top of the ladder and the third spot. Rookie Mihiliya Kalahe Arachchige (Panadura, Sri Lanka/Sirimavo Bandaranaike Vidyalaya Colombo 7) earned the victory from one as she posted an 11-2, 11-8, 11-5 win over junior Caroline Conway (Weston, Mass./Milton Academy). Senior captain Ragini Ghose (Dubai/Millfield School) garnered the second point for MHC, gutting out a 3-2 (11-5, 9-11, 5-11, 12-10, 14-12) win against sophomore Riddhi Sampat (Mumbai, India/Cathedral & John Connon School). Ghose found herself down by a 2-1 margin, but battled to 12-10 and 14-12 scores over the final two games for the victory.

From eight, sophomore Ashira Mawji (New York, N.Y./Ashbury College) bested Lyons senior captain Tanishka Sachidanand (Karnataka, India/Canadian International School) by an 11-5, 11-5, 11-2 margin, while at six, junior Pierson Klein (Atlanta, Ga./Columbia University) earned an 11-9, 11-9, 11-2 win over sophomore Jennifer Mbah (Jamaica Plain, Mass./John D. O'Bryant School of Math and Science).

Lyons' rookie Maeve Watts-Roy (Louisville, Ky./DuPont Manual) suffered an 11-5, 11-7, 11-8 loss to first year Keeley Osborn (Chadds Ford, Pa./Choate Rosemary Hall), while from two, Mammoths senior Rachael Ang (Singapore/Saint Paul's School) took victory in a hard-fought battle against Lyons senior Nadindhi Udangawa (Colombo, Sri Lanka/Colombo International School) by a, 8-11, 9-11, 11-7, 12-10, 11-6 score.

At nine, junior Jenna Finkelstein (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich Academy) posted an 11-6, 11-4, 11-2 victory over MHC sophomore Emma Robson (Amherst, Mass./Amherst Regional), while senior Priya Sinha (Atlanta, Ga./The Westminster School) defeated MHC senior captain Lessly Portillo (New Haven, Conn./Hill Regional Career Magnet), 11-2, 11-7, 11-4. In the seventh spot, junior Katy Sabina Correia (McLean, Va./The Potomac School) bested sophomore Kuzivakwashe Madungwe (Harare, Zimbabwe/Arundel School) by an 11-2, 11-2, 11-7 margin.

Mount Holyoke returns to the court on Saturday when it hosts the 2019 Seven Sisters Championship. The Lyons, who are the top-seed, will face-off against fourth-seeded Smith College at 10am.
