Squash Falls to Bowdoin in Semi-Finals of the CSA Team Championships

Cambridge, Mass – The Mount Holyoke college squash team caught a tough break in the semifinals of the Epps Cup (D) division, as they fell, 7-2 to Bowdoin in the 2018 College Women's National Team Championships on Saturday. The Lyons conclude the season with at a record of 8-13.

After losses at the three and six, the Lyons gained some ground as Emma Robson (Amherst, Mass./Amherst Regional) dominated Bowdoin's Rose Warren in an 11-0, 11-2, 11-4 win from the nine to make it 2-1. The Polar Bears gained momentum as Virginia Ross and Zoe Wood earned 11-5, 11-7, 11-9, and 11-7, 6-11, 11-5, 11-6 wins, respectively at the two and five to extend the lead to 4-1.

First year Nicole Lara Granados (Bronx, N.Y./DeWitt Clinton) cut the deficit to two with an 11-0, 11-2, 11-4 victory over Rose Warren from the nine. First year Jennifer Mbah (Jamaica Plain, Mass./John D. O'Bryant School of Math and Science) put up a tough fight, but ultimately fell, 11-8, 11-9, 9-11, 11-2 to Bowdoin's Diya Chopra. The Polar Bears went on to earn an 11-6, 11-4, 11-8 win at the top of the ladder, before finishing the match with an 11-6, 11-4, 13-11 victory at seven.

Mount Holyoke will trek to MIT to compete in the 3/4 playoff against Connecticut College. Action is set to begin at 3:00pm.
