Waterville, Maine. – The Mount Holyoke College squash team traveled to Maine this weekend for duals against #22 Colby and #26 Bowdoin. In the first match against Mules, the Lyons fell 8-1, while falling 7-2 in the second match to the Polar Bears. With the losses, MHC is now 4-9.
The first match kicked off with a win from junior Ragini Ghose (Dubai/Millfield School) at the two spot over Madiah Molani (Lake Zurich, Ill./Lake Zurich). The 3-0 (11-7, 11-8, 11-5) win for the Dubai native is her eighth sweep of the season and second in a row. Colby bounced back winning the next eight games. From the third spot in the ladder, senior Emily Chang (Carmichael, Calif./Mira Loma) earned a 12-10 victory in the second set, but Colby's Julianna Song (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich Academy) gained back momentum to win the next three, which gave her the deciding win for the Mules.
Action moved to Bowdoin where first year Nicole Lara Granados (Bronx, N.Y./DeWitt Clinton) finished first with a 3-0 (11-8, 11-9, 11-6) victory over sophomore Jean Davis (San Francisco, Calif./Branson School) from the ninth position to start the Lyons off with a 1-0 lead.
The Polar Bears knotted the match up at the three as first year Rose Warren (Hallowell, maine/Hall-Dale) earned a 3-0 victory. At the six spot, first year Kuzivakwashe Madungwe (Harare, Zimbabwe/Arundel School) fought hard, coming out the gate with two wins in the set, but junior Natasha Belsky (New York, N.Y./Spence School) turned the match around, winning the next three to earn a 3-2 (10-12, 9-11, 11-4, 14-12, 11-6) win and a 2-1 overall win for Bowdoin.
From the eight spot, first year Emma Robson (Amherst, Mass./Amherst Regional) made quick work of senior Hanna Cooke (Portland, Maine/Berkshire School) with a 3-0 (11-8, 11-9, 11-6) victory to tie the match back at 2-all. Despite hard fought battles, the Polar Bears went on to take the next five wins to secure a 7-2 victory.
The Lyons are back in action tomorrow at Bates, while Bowdoin is back at home against Brown. Both matches are set to start at 12:00pm, while Colby hosts Tufts tomorrow for an 11:00am start.
