Squash Dominates In 8-1 Victory Over Northeastern University

AMHERST, Mass. - The Mount Holyoke Squash team had a dominating performance at Amherst College, facing off against Northeastern University on Saturday evening with an 8-1 victory. Each of the Lyons games was won by a score of 3-0.

Junior Nadindhi Udangawa (Colombo, Sri Lanka/Colombo International School) was the first to finish, defeating Jessica Qui 3-0 (11-2, 11-2, 11-3). First year Jennifer Mbah (Jamaica Plain, Mass./John D. O'Bryant School of Math and Science) was next with an 11-5, 11-6, 11-5 win over Malia Bow from the sixth spot.

Classmate Nicole Lara Granados (Bronx, N.Y./DeWitt Clinton) picked up a win next from the eight spot in the ladder in 3-0 (11-8, 11-6, 11-5) fashion over Sophie Atkins. From the nine spot, first year Genesis Lara Granados (Bronx, N.Y./DeWitt Clinton) defeated Sophie Atkins 11-8, 11-6, 11-5 to give the Lyons a 4-0 lead, while senior Emily Chang (Carmichael, Calif./Mira Loma) made it a five point lead with a 3-0 win over Isabelle Schlehr at the four.

The second round kicked off with a 3-0 win from the five spot by junior Lessly Portillo (New Haven, Conn./Hill Regional Career Magnet) over Malia Bow, followed by a 11-2, 11-8, 11-5 win by junior Ragini Ghose (Dubai/Millfield School) at the three over Maggie Markgraf.

Junior Tanishka Sachidanand (Karnataka, India/Canadian International School) took down Brooke Lundgren, 11-3, 11-3, 11-6 to give the Lyons an 8-0 lead from the seven spot. The last match was a marathon as senior Brandy Williamson (New York, N.Y./Thurgood Marshall Academy) to Nicole Powers to five games, but eventually lost 3-2 (11-8, 11-7, 8-11, 8-11, 11-9) to end the match 8-1.

The Lyons are finished with the 2017 schedule and will be back in action on January 12th against Wesleyan University at 3:00pm.
