Squash Posts 9-0 Victory Over Smith in Home Opener

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. - A dominant effort by the top-7 helped life the Mount Holyoke College squash team to a 9-0 win over Smith College on Saturday morning at the Kendall Squash Courts. With the win, the 27th-ranked Lyons move to 3-0 on the young season, while the Pioneers are now 0-1 overall.

The match opened with the even side of the ladder as first year Jennifer Mbah (Jamaica Plain, Mass./John D. O'Bryant School of Math and Science) powered her way to an 11-5, 11-1, 11-1 win over Smith's Caroline Previte at four. From the sixth position, junior Tanishka Sachidanand (Karnataka, India/Canadian International School) posted an 11-6, 11-1, 11-5 victory over the Pioneers' Emma Westgate, while at two, classmate Ragini Ghose (Dubai/Millfield School) was an 11-3, 11-3, 11-1 winner against Claire McCoy.

In the odd matches, junior Lessly Portillo (New Haven, Conn./Hill Regional Career Magnet) earned the win at three with an 11-3, 11-7, 11-1 triumph against Beatrice Chaudoin. MHC first year Nicole Lara Granados (Bronx, N.Y./DeWitt Clinton) picked up the win at seven with an 11-4, 11-4, 11-3 victory over Smith's Yagian Tang.

First year Kuzivakwashe Madungwe (Harare, Zimbabwe/Arundel School) went on to best Smith's Ciara Chen at five by an 11-5, 11-2, 11-5 margin, while junior Nadindhi Udangawa (Colombo, Sri Lanka/Colombo International School) wrapped up the action from the top of the ladder with an 11-6, 11-0, 11-7 win.

The Lyons gained wins at eight and nine via wins through default.

Mount Holyoke is back in action next Saturday at 12pm when it travels to Tufts University.
