SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. - Despite several strong wins in the middle of the ladder, the Mount Holyoke College squash team was unable to get past Connecticut College, falling 5-4 on Wednesday evening. With the victory, the Camels improve to 6-9, while the Lyons slip to 4-11.

The Camels started out strong as first year Olivia Silverman defeated Allison Shilling at the second position by an 11-9, 11-5, 11-9 margin. CC sophomore Elizabeth Varoli then got the best of Lyons' first year Tanishka Sachidanand at eight with an 11-4, 11-6, 11-7 win.

MHC was able to counter from the sixth position as senior Annie Wong bested sophomore Nina Nalle, 11-7, 11-9, 13-11, but a win by first year Aaliyah Davidson over first year Lessly Portillo (11-7, 7-11, 11-9, 11-3) at four put the visitors up by a 3-1 margin.

Senior Rose Minichiello closed the gap for MHC at seven with an 11-8, 11-4, 11-9 victory over junior Caroline Lippincott, but sophomore Allie Fuller grabbed an 11-3, 11-1, 11-3 win against junior Syry Mitchell to make a 4-2 edge for the Camels.

Lyons' sophomore Emily Chang then won at five with an 11-4, 11-7, 11-5 decision against junior Anne Holly, but senior Ashley Arthur bested MHC senior captain Catherine Ryan at three with an 11-5, 11-2, 11-6 decision to make it a 5-3 game.

Sophomore Brandy Williamson closed out the game from the top of the ladder, giving the Lyons their final point as she battled to an 11-8, 9-11, 11-9, 11-8 victory over sophomore Mawa Ballo.

Mount Holyoke returns to action on Sunday when it travels to Yale University for neutral site matches against Brown (10:30am) and Drexel (12:30pm). Connecticut College is back on the court on Friday at Bowdoin (8pm), followed by matches at Bates against the host Bobcats (2pm) and Virginia (4:30pm) on Saturday.

The match also marked the final regular season home contest for the Lyons three graduating seniors. Honored before the match was Ryan, Minichiello and Wong.
