Cambridge, Mass. - The Mount Holyoke college soccer team fell 6-0 to MIT in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) soccer action on Friday. With the loss, the Lyons fall to 2-9-1 overall and 0-5 in the conference, while the Engineers improve to 12-0 overall and 4-0 in the NEWMAC.

MIT nearly got on the board just 10:30 into the game when sophomore Emily Berzolla ripped a shot off the crossbar, but just over a minute later the Engineers were able to register their first goal of the game. Senior Jacqueline Simmons (Houston, Texas) lined a ball into the upper corner of the net on a pass by junior Hailey Nichols (Boulder, Colo.) for the 1-0 lead on Simmons' second goal of the season.

Less than seven minutes later, MIT doubled its lead when Allie Werner (Tyler, Texas) registered her second goal of the year on a feed by junior Amy Apostol (Los Gatos, Calif.) 18:37 into the game as the Engineers took a 2-0 lead into the break.

The 13th-ranked Engineers put the game away in the second stanza when they scored four goals in a span of 19 minutes midway through the half. Nichols headed in her fourth goal of the year off a corner kick by Berzolla in the 47th minute, Apostol notched her sixth of the year on a pass by junior Allie Hrabchak (Princeton, N.J.) in the 53rd minute, Werner posted her second of the game and third of the season on an unassisted goal in the 57th minute and senior Olivia Struckman (Scottsdale, Ariz.) closed the scoring for MIT in the 66th minute when she fired the ball off a throw in by classmate Jillian Dressler (Harrison, N.Y.).

MIT keeper Lily Mueller (Lakeville, Minn.) who played the opening 45 minutes of the contest moved to 11-0 this fall for the Engineers, while classmate Chris Sacha (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) played the second 45 minutes in her sixth appearance of the season. The MIT duo combined for the team's fifth clean sheet of the season. Mount Holyoke keeper Amanda Manaster (Beverly Hills, Calif./Beverly Hills) registered a career-high 20 saves in net for the Lyons.

MIT heads to No. 4 Williams College for a matchup between the top-two teams in New England on Sunday, October 8 at 12:30 p.m., while Mount Holyoke welcomes Clark University for a NEWMAC match on Tuesday, October 10 at 6:00 p.m. in its next
