SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – Amherst College got a pair of goals from three different players to lift the 14th-ranked Mammoths to a 10-0 win over Mount Holyoke College in non-conference action on Thursday. With the victory, Amherst opens the season with a 1-0-0 mark, while the Lyons slip to 1-2-0.

Amherst jumped out to a 2-0 lead within the first eight minutes of the contest after a Lyons own goal and a header by junior forward Rubii Tamen (Washington, D.C./National Cathedral School) off a cross from senior forward Hannah Guzzi (Southborough, Mass./Philips Academy Andover).

The Mammoths went on to score six straight goals to close out the first half, including two each from first year forward Natalie Landau (Providence, R.I./Lincoln School for Girls) and junior midfielder Grace Orr (Blaircliff, Manor, N.Y./Briarcliff).

Mount Holyoke's senior forward Sara Sanaú Ruiz (Zaragoza, Spain/P.P. Dominicos - Cardenal Xavierre) had the Lyons best chance in the contest in the 42nd minute, sending a shot down the middle that was stopped by junior keeper Chelsea Cutler (Westport, Conn./Pomfret School).

Amherst, which held a significant shot advantage through the opening half, was held to just eight attempts in the second stanza. Guzzi earned the hat trick for the visitors after scoring on a penalty kick in the 53rd minute, followed by a tally off a converted pass from junior midfielder Claire Nam (Ho-Ho-Kus, N.J./Northern Highlands) nearly five minutes later.

The visitors owned a 28-1 advantage in shots, while also edging the Lyons by a 5-0 margin in corner kicks. Cutler earned the win, making one save, while junior keeper Amanda Manaster (Berverly Hills, Calif./Beverly Hills) posted seven saves for the Lyons.

Both teams are back in action on Saturday as Mount Holyoke welcomes Southern Vermont at 1pm, while Amherst opens conference play against Bowdoin at home for a 12pm start time.
