Soccer Suffers 2-0 Loss at Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Aided by a two-goal first half, the Springfield College soccer team posted a 2-0 victory over Mount Holyoke College in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference Action (NEWMAC) on Tuesday evening. With the victory, the Pride move to 10-4-1 and 6-1-1 in conference action, while the Lyons slip to 5-11-0 and 0-8-0 in the NEWMAC.

Kim Rasmussen (East Berlin, Conn.) notched the game's first goal, scoring in the 15th minute on an assist from Jessica Miller (Southbury, Conn.). Miller received the ball on the right side of the field where she sent a pass into the middle to Rasmussen who shot the ball across the goalie into the left side of the net for a 1-0 Pride lead. Rasmussen has a team-high four goals this season.

Vicky DiNatale (Weymouth, Mass.), the reigning NEWMAC Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, made it a two-goal game when she scored unassisted in the 24th minute for the Pride. After a few shot attempts by Springfield, DiNatale sent a shot through traffic and into the goal for a 2-0 lead before the half.

The win gives Springfield three-straight wins in conference play, all three came in shutout fashion for the Pride. Springfield now has eight shutouts on the season. The Pride hasn't allowed a shot on goal in two-straight games.

Lucy Gillett (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) earned the win in goal for Springfield without making a save while Mount Holyoke's Mackenzie Randall (Harwinton, Conn.) made 10 saves.

Springfield will travel to WPI on Saturday for a conference clash beginning at 11:00 a.m. Mount Holyoke will host Smith College next Tuesday at 6:00 p.m.
