Soccer Shoulders 4-1 Loss at Wellesley

WELLESLEY, Mass. - Junior Cassidy Robinson netted her team-leading fourth goal of the season, but it wasn't enough as the Mount Holyoke College soccer team fell at Wellesley College,  4-1 in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on Saturday. With the victory, the Blue improve to 6-7-1 overall and 3-1-0 in conference play, while the Lyons slip to 5-8-0 and 0-5-0 in the NEWMAC.

The Blue jumped out to an early lead as Ava Mokhtari punched in an unassisted tally in the 8th minute to make it a 1-0 game. Just over 10 minutes later, it was Mokhatari once again as she fired in a feed from Kyla Petrie in the 19th minute for the 2-0 advantage.

Mount Holyoke closed the gap as Robinson converted a pass from sophomore Ashleigh Hartsock in the 36th minute, but the momentum wasn't enough to pull the Lyons even before halftime.

The second half saw another strong offensive effort by the home team as Juliette Fry buried one in the MHC net off a pass from LJ Foster in the 78th minute. It was Foster's turn less than nine minutes later as she banked in her own tally in the 85th minute for the 4-1 lead.

The visiting Lyons tried to get back into it, but the Wellesley defense stood tough. The Blue held a 19-8 margin in shots, while also leading in corners, 10-2. In goal, Kat Goldsmith earned the win, stopping two shots in the first half. Claire Cerda came on in relief for the second half and made two saves of her own.

For Mount Holyoke, first year Alyssa Tabrisky suffered the loss, stopping four shots in the first half, while classmate Zoe Marshall made four saves in the second half of relief.

Wellesley returns to action on Tuesday when it hosts MIT at 4pm. MHC is also in action on Tuesday, hosting Coast Guard at 6pm.
