Soccer Edged at Clark, 2-1

WORCESTER, Mass. - Despite a goal from first year Anne Shaffrey in the second half of action, the Mount Holyoke College soccer team was unable to net the equalizer, falling to Clark University by a 2-1 margin in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on Tuesday evening. The Cougars improve to 4-7 and 1-2 in the conference, while the Lyons slip to 5-7 and 0-4 in the NEWMAC.

Clark got things going midway through the first half as Lucia Pantuosco buried a feed from Janelle Pasternack past the reach of MHC keeper Zoe Marshall in the 21st minute. Pasternack later posted a tally of her own, getting another one in the back of the Lyons' net following a pass from Emma Lynch in the 40th minute.

Mount Holyoke was able to cut the deficit to one in the second half as Shaffrey netted her second of the season in the 74th minute of play. The Lyons had their opportunities to score the equalizer, but were unable to get one past Gabby Paolini, who made one save in the victory.

For MHC, Marshall shouldered the loss, stopping six shots in the first half. First year Alyssa Tabrisky came on in the second half, making three saves.

Mount Holyoke returns to action on Saturday in a 1pm contest at Wellesley. Clark is also in action on Saturday with a 1pm game at MIT.
