MIDDLETOWN, R.I. – The Mount Holyoke College lacrosse team came from behind to defeat Salve Regina University on the road in non-conference action on Thursday. The Lyons' Julia Klein tied the score at 4-4 just before halftime and Mount Holyoke never trailed in the second half en route to a 10-8 triumph.

Mount Holyoke senior Leila Kouakou (Leeds, Mass.) led the game with five goals and won a game-best six draw controls. Kaitlin Braz, Mazzie Meotti, Julianna Rankin, and Kelly Hammond each registered one goal. Braz had a strong defensive game with a team-best five caused turnovers. In net, sophomore Mia Wysocki (Longmeadow, Mass.) earned the win for the MHC with seven saves. As a team, the Lyons dominated the draw control by a margin of 15 to five.

For Salve Regina, sophomore Maddie Villareal (Portsmouth, R.I.) scored a team-high three goals, while junior Lindsey Smith (North Attleboro, Mass.) handed out two assists and caused a game-best six turnovers. Christina Myers made 12 saves in net for the Seahawks.

The Lyons trailed 4-1before scoring five unanswered goals, including two in a row from Kouakou in less than a two minute span to take the first lead of the night. Salve evened the score at 8-8 with 6:18 to go in the second half,  but Kouakou sealed the victory for the Lyons with her fourth and fifth goals of the night to cement a 10-8 victory.

Mount Holyoke is back on the road, playing Eastern Connecticut State on Saturday at 4:00pm. Salve Regina will also be on the road on Saturday against Nichols at 11:00am.
