CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The MIT women's lacrosse team used nine unanswered goals during the last 32:53 of regulation to pull away for a 19-4 victory over Mount Holyoke College in NEWMAC action on Saturday. With the win, the Engineers improve to 3-5 overall and 1-1 in the NEWMAC, while the Lyons are now 1-7 overall and 0-2 in conference action.

Senior Emily Young (La Jolla, Calif.) led all players with nine points on seven goals and two assists in addition to a game-high seven draw controls. Senior Katie Notarangelo (Foxboro, Mass.) finished with five goals, six groundballs, and four caused turnovers, while Cecilia McCormick (Islip, N.Y.) tallied one goal and four assists. Junior Ana Flooks (Weston, Conn.) posted one goal and two assists as first year Joyce Noh (Los Angeles, Calif.) recorded the first two goals of her career.

Sophomore Leah Vogel (Houston, Texas) bolstered the defense with three caused turnovers. In net, senior Eva Boal (Princeton Junction, N.J.) made four saves during first 43 minutes of action as first year Hannah Adams (Springfield, Va.) turned away one shot in relief.

For the Lyons, senior Leila Kouakou (Leeds, Mass./Northampton) generated one goal, one assist, three draw controls and two groundballs, while junior Haley Subocz (Northampton, Mass./Northampton) scooped up three groundballs. Senior Julia Lankin West Hartford, Conn./Conard) produced three draw controls and two groundballs as senior Clarissa Leight (Austin, Texas/Liberal Arts & Science Academy) made four saves.

Nortarangelo connected on a feed from McCormick to put MIT on the board after 35 seconds expired while Young followed with two goals of her own. Sophomore Julianna Rankin (Annapolis, Md. / Annapolis) found senior Kaitlin Braz (Tolland, Conn./East Catholic) for her first goal of the day at the 23:09 mark but the Engineers netted four goals over the course of eight minutes, creating a 7-1 advantage.

Junior Deyscha Smith (Boston, Mass./Academy of the Pacific Rim) ended Mount Holyoke's scoring drought with a free-position shot, however, MIT replied with strikes by Young and senior Jack Simmons. A solo effort by Kouakou set off an exchange of goals that brought the Lyons within six (10-4) after Braz redirected a feed from Kouakou with 3:44 on the clock. The hosts responded with goals by senior Ashley Masucci (Windham, N.H.) and Young to enter halftime with a comfortable cushion.

Notarangelo opened the second-half scoring with a pair of early free-position goals. The Engineers went on to outscore the visitors, 5-0, during the remainder of the frame.

Both teams hit the road for their upcoming outings next week. MIT will visit Bridgewater State University on Tuesday, April 3 for a 6:30 p.m. start. Mount Holyoke, meanwhile, returns to action on Thursday, April 6 at 6:00 p.m. with a trip to Salve Regina University.
