COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Ten different players scored to lead the Colorado College lacrosse team to a 20-5 victory over visiting Mount Holyoke College in non-conference action on Friday. With the win, the Tigers improve to 5-2, while the Lyons slip to 1-5 on the young season.
Colorado College was paced in the contest by three goal efforts from Allie Thuet, Annie DeFrino, Ellie Meyer and Isabelle Patalino. Eva King came off the bench to record two goals and a game-high three assists, while Patalino and Steph Kelly each had four ground balls. Kelly also posted a game-best six draw control wins. In goal, the Tigers saw three keepers see action. Alena Stern earned the win, playing 25:03 minutes without having to make a save. Zoe Frolik played 14:00 minutes and had two stops, while Remy Wells had a save over 20:57 of action.
For Mount Holyoke, Deyscha Smith recorded a game-best three goals. Leila Kouakou and Meryl Phair also had tallies in the game, while Julia Lankin paced the defense with a match-best three caused turnovers and a game-high six draw control wins. Kaitlin Braz was also solid with a game-best three caused turnovers and an assist. Her sister, Chelsea Braz led the Lyons with a game-high four ground balls. In goal, Mia Wysocki posted 12 saves over 47:28 minutes played. She was relieved over the final 12:32 by Clarissa Leight, who made one save.
CC opened the game's scoring, but the Lyons responded quickly as Kouakou converted a pass from Kaitlin Braz to make it 1-1 with 27:45 to play. Despite that momentum, the Tigers rebounded in a big way with nine unanswered, including three straight from Patalino for a 9-1 lead. Phair broke up the run for the Lyons with her third of the season on the free position and Smith recorded her first of the contest with 3:02 to go, but the Tigers capitalized in the final 31 seconds for a 12-3 advantage at the half.
In the second stanza, Smith found the back of the net off a feed from Julianna Rankin to close the gap to eight (12-4) less than a minute into the frame. The Tigers came up big once again just two minutes later, going on a 7-0 run with two goals each from DeFrino and King for a 19-4 edge. Smith earned her third goal of the game with 3:19 to play, but Colorado College held on for the 20-5 victory.
Mount Holyoke returns to the East Coast on Friday and is back in action on Wednesday in an 8pm contest at Salve Regina. Colorado College turns around on Sunday, welcoming Hamline University at 11am.
