BOSTON, Mass. – The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) has announced its All-Conference selections in women's lacrosse and Mount Holyoke College student-athlete Julia Bell was recognized. She was named to the Second Team, marking the fourth straight All-Conference honor of her career.
Bell, a senior midfielder from Longmeadow, Mass., played in all 14 games including 13 as a starter. She led the team in a number of categories, including points (58), goals (49), shots (81), shots on goal (70), caused turnovers (24) and ground balls (34). Bell was also second in both assists (9) and draw controls (30), while tallying at least one goal in every game, including eight with four or more goals.
The former Wilbraham & Monson Academy graduate is currently ranked third in the NEWMAC in goals, while also sitting fifth among the conference leaders in points. She is also listed sixth in shots on goal, eighth in shots and 11th in caused turnovers. Additionally, Bell finished third overall in caused turnovers over eight conference games, recording 17 of her 24 cto's against fellow NEWMAC opponents.
One of the most decorated players in Mount Holyoke history, Bell played in 59 career games. A starter in 58 contests, she recorded 213 goals with 74 assists for 287 career points. She was the fourth player in program history to reach 200 career points and just the second to eclipse 200 career goals. Of her 213 goals, 33 came on the free position (33-68). Additionally, she added 101 ground balls, 150 draw controls and 65 caused turnovers. Bell also recorded 401 shots in her career, 328 of which were on goal.
Among the Lyons' all-time best, Bell ranks high in several categories. She twice recorded nine goals in a game, which ranks second all-time. She's also second in goals in a season (71 in 2014), as well as career goals (213). Bell also concluded her career ranked third in all-time assists. In addition to second in all-time career points, she also ranks third in points in a season with 94 (71g/23a) during the 2014 season.
Bell is also the all-time leader in points per game in a career with a 4.86 average, while also ranking fourth all-time in career draw controls and caused turnovers.
This year's recognition marks the fourth straight honor for Bell, who was named to the Second Team as a junior, while garnering First Team honors as a sophomore and first year. She was also the NEWMAC Rookie of the Year in 2013.
Mount Holyoke finished the season with a 3-11 record, going 2-6 in the NEWMAC.
