Golf Places Sixth at George Phinney Classic at Middlebury

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. - The 2018 George Phinney Classic at Middlebury College has wrapped-up and the Mount Holyoke College golf team finished sixth of 11 competing teams at the event. The Lyons posted a combined score of 698. Williams College won this years event by a seven-stoke margin and a score of 643.

Leading the way for the Lyons was junior Susan Lee (Irvine, Calif./University HS), who posted a tie for 24th overall with a combined score of 170 (86-84). Classmate Stephanie Spitzer (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) finished just three strokes back, posting a combined 173 (82-91) for 27th overall.

Rookie Cortney Qiu (Winter Springs, Fla./Winter Springs) was 32nd overall, recording a combined 175 (86-89), while junior Elizabeth Andrian (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) was 39th with a score of 180 (84-96).

 

Sophomore Lahela Delaney (Honolulu, Hawaii/Roosevelt) rounded out the Lyons team efforts, taking 47th overall with a combined 194 (92-102).

The Ephs posted a seven-stroke lead over Amherst College, who took runner-up with a combined 650. The host Panthers were third with a combined 663, while Vassar (666) and Hamilton (671) rounded out the top five.

Individually, Middlebury's Chloe Levins stayed steady on day two to capture medalist honors with a combined 152 (76-76). Williams' Cordelia Chan was second overall, notching a combined 156 (74-82).

Mount Holyoke takes to the link for the final time this fall beginning next Saturday when it travels to the New York University Fall Invitational. Action runs through Sunday.
