Golf Sits 6th Following Day 1 of Phinney Classic

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. - Action at the 2018 George Phinney Classic at Middlebury College has concluded day one and through the first 18 holes, the Mount Holyoke College golf team sits sixth of 11 competing teams. The Lyons posted a combined score of 338. Williams College leads the overall field, posting 320 in the First Round.

Leading the way for the Lyons on opening day was junior Stephanie Spitzer (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central), who shot 82 and is currently in 17th place. Classmate Elizabeth Andrian (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) is two strokes back in 22nd with a score of 64, while fellow junior Susan Lee (Irvine, Calif./University HS) and rookie Cortney Qiu (Winter Springs, Fla./Winter Springs) are both tied for 29th after shooting 89 overall.

Sophomore Lahela Delaney (Honolulu, Hawaii/Roosevelt) rounds out the Lyons scoring in 40th, shooting a 92 in the First Round.

The Ephs lead the overall field, followed by Amherst which is just one stroke behind in second with a 321. The host Panthers sit in third with a 326, followed by Vassar (330) and Hamilton (335), who round out the top five.

Individually, Williams' Cordelia Chan leads the field, having shot a 74 in the opening round. Hamilton's Celia Lau is just one stroke behind in second with a 75.
