Golf Finishes Eighth at MHC Invitational

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. - Action at the 2018 MHC Invitational at The Orchards Golf Course has wrapped-up and the Mount Holyoke College golf team earned eighth overall. Amherst College won this year's tournament, holding off Williams College by a three-stroke margin for the team title. Overall, the Lyons posted a combined score of 669 in the 17-team field.

Rookie Cortney Qiu (Winter Springs, Fla./Winter Springs) paced Mount Holyoke on the weekend, notching a 78 on day two. Combined with her opening round of 80, she shot a 158 total which was good for 14th place in the field.  Junior Stephanie Spitzer (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) bettered her score from Saturday, posting an 80 in the Final Round. She had a combined 162 on the weekend, which placed her 23rd overall. Classmate Susan Lee (Irvine, Calif./University HS) finished 34th overall in the event, improving her score by four strokes for an 81 on day two. She recorded a combined 166 score.

Junior Elizabeth Andrian (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) was 61st on the weekend, recording a 94 in the Final Round to finish with a combined score of 185, while sophomore Caitlyn Richmond (Northampton, Mass./Northampton) rounded out the team scoring in 63rd with a combined score of 187 - improving three strokes from Saturday for a 92 on Sunday.

Individually, sophomore Lahela Delaney (Honolulu, Hawaii/Roosevelt) was 68th overall. After shooting a 98 in the opening round, Delaney battled back for a seven stroke improvement to finish with a 91 and a combined 189 on the weekend.

Amherst won this year's event, recording a 306 in round two to finish with a combined 619. Williams, which also shot a 306 in the Final Round, posted a 622. New York University took third with a combined 628, followed by Wellesley in fourth with a score of 639. Middlebury College rounded out the top five, shooting a combined 641 on the weekend. 

Individually, Williams' Cordelia Chan earned medalist honors after shooting a combined 142 on the weekend. Saturday saw her record a 75, while Sunday saw Chan achieve an astounding 67 for the lowest round score of the tournament. Amherst's Morgan Yurosek was the runner-up medalist, posting a 148 on the weekend. She shot a 76 on day one, following that up with a four-stroke improvement of 72 in the final round.

Mount Holyoke returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Williamstown, Mass., to compete in the Williams Fall Classic. Action at the Taconic Golf Club continues through Sunday.
