Golf Takes 5th at Season Opening Batchelder Invitational

WELLESLEY, Mass. - Action at the 2018 Ann S. Batchelder Invitational has concluded and after 36 holes, the Mount Holyoke College golf team earned fifth overall in the field. The Lyons posted a combined score of 681, finishing just six strokes behind fourth-place Middlebury.

MHC was led this weekend by rookie Cortney Qiu, who posted a score of 158 (80-78) in her collegiate debut, and finished tied for seventh overall. Junior Stephanie Spitzer took 21st overall with a combined score of 171 (82-89), while classmate Susan Lee was 26th with a score of 175 (87-88). Sophomore Lahela Delaney placed 30 at this year's meet with a combined 181 (84-97), while junior Elizabeth Andrian closed out the team action in 33rd with 185 (92-93).

Amherst battled back on day two to win this year's tournament, posting a score of 300 in the final round to finish with a combined 611 on the weekend. The host Blue were runners-up, posting a 625 (306-319), followed by Vassar (325-330 -- 655), Middlebury (337-338 -- 675) and Mount Holyoke (333-348 -- 681). Individually, Amherst's Morgan Yurosek earned medalist honors, shooting a 70 in the Final Round for a combined score of 146 on the weekend.

Mount Holyoke returns to action on Saturday when it hosts the MHC Invitational at The Orchards Golf Club. Action gets underway at 8:30am.
