Golf Releases 2017-18 Schedule

SOUTH HADLEY, MASS. – Led by seventh-year head coach Tim Walko, the Lyons golf team looks to continue its strong presence in the Liberty League following a season in which it finished second overall at the conference championship. In addition to three players garnering All-League honors, MHC also earned seven top-six finishes.

TOP FIVE MOMENTS FROM LAST YEAR

  • Mount Holyoke finished second at the Liberty League Championships, powered by a strong performance from Allison Shilling '17, who finished sixth (159) to earn All-Liberty League honors for the fourth time in her collegiate career.
  • In addition to Shilling, first years Stephanie Spitzer and Susan Lee earned All-Liberty League Second Team recognition for their top-10 finish at the conference tournament.
  • The Lyons finished in the top-10 in seven out of its eight tournaments during the 2016-17 campaign.
  • MHC not only performed well in tournament competition last season, but also won a pair of dual matches during its spring trip to Florida in March. The Lyons bested conference-rival William Smith (5-1) before edging NESCAC-foe, Hamilton (3.5-1.5).
  • Among the top performances during the 2016-17 season was Lee, who tied for sixth overall at the NYU Fall Invitational. That performance not only helped the team to a third-place finish, but also saw the first year garner Liberty League Rookie of the Week and Lyon of the Week honors.

TOP FIVE THINGS TO LOOK FORWARD TO

  • With an average score of 84.0, Lee is the Lyons top returner from the 2016-17 squad. She also recorded three top-15 finishes, including 10th overall at the Liberty League Championships.
  • Since Mount Holyoke joining the Liberty League in 2012-13, the Lyons have finished in the top-five at every league championship. Highlighting that span was a championship title in 2013-14, along with runner-up finishes in 2014-15 and 2016-17.
  • The Lyons graduated three seniors in 2017, but look to return five players from last year's squad. Among those includes All-Liberty League Second Team finishers Lee and Spitzer.
  • As a team, MHC dropped its scoring average to 336.38 last year – a 14.31 point difference from the 2015-16 season.
  • The Lyons have seen 24 players garner Liberty League All-Academic honors since joining the conference in 2012-13. Among the top each year, MHC honored eight during the 2014-15 season, which was the most of any school in the conference.
