Golf Finishes Sixth at Vassar College Invitational

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Mount Holyoke College golf team concluded play at the 2017 Vassar College Invitational on Sunday. The Lyons grabbed a one-stroke advantage over the host Brewers to finish sixth overall in the field of 12 teams.

MHC was paced by senior captain Allison Shilling as she shot a combined 160 on the weekend. Shilling opened with a 79 and finished Round Two with an 81 to finish 10th overall in the field of 64 golfers. First year Susan Lee finished 27th overall, posting an 85 on day one and countering with an 83 on day two for a total score of 168, while senior captain June Conti was tied for 31st with a score of 172 on the weekend. She shot an 86 both days.

First year Stephanie Spitzer placed in a tie for 51st overall, notching a 91 on day one and a 92 on day two. She had a combined score of 183 on the weekend. Classmate Maggie Kohl also represented the Lyons on this weekend as an individual. She notched a score of 100 after day one and went on to post a 91 in the Final Round, finishing 57th overall.

This year's invitational was won by Williams College, which rallied from fourth on day one to shoot a combined 300 on day two. They won with a score of 631. New York University finished second overall after holding the lead on day one, notching a combined 633. Amherst College was third with a score of 642, followed by Ithaca College in fourth with a 653. Middlebury College rounded out the top five with a score of 659.

Mount Holyoke returns to action next weekend when it competes at the Jack Leaman Invitational, hosted by Amherst College at the Hickory Ridge Golf Club.
