Golf Tied For 6th After Day 1 at Vassar Invitational

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Mount Holyoke College golf team returned to the links on Saturday, taking part in the 2017 Vassar College Invitational. After the First Round of action, the Lyons are tied for sixth among the field of 12 teams.

MHC was paced by senior captain Allison Shilling in the opening round as she shot a 79. That score puts her at seventh overall in the field of 64 golfers. First year Susan Lee sits tied for 21st on the day after notching an 85, while senior captain June Conti is currently tied for 28th after posting an opening round mark of 86.

First year Stephanie Spitzer posted a score of 91 on the day, coming in at 44th overall. Classmate Maggie Kohl also represented the Lyons on Saturday as an individual. She notched a score of 100 after day one, which puts her in 60th place.

This year's invitational is led by New York University, which has a combined score of 317. Ithaca College is second with a 325 score, followed by Amherst, which is two strokes behind in third (327). Williams College is fourth with a 331, while Middlebury rounds out the top five (334). Both the host Brewers and the Lyons sit in sixth with a score of 341.

Action at this year's invitational continues on Sunday with a shotgun start at 9:30am.
