Golf Sits 7th After Round 1 of MHC Invitational

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. - First Round action at the 2016 MHC Invitational has concluded and after the first 18 holes, Mount Holyoke College is tied for seventh in a field of 14 teams. The Lyons opened Saturday's action with a combined score of 338. Williams College is the current team leader after shooting a combined 300.

Leading the Lyons is senior captain June Conti (Amenia, N.Y./Miss Porter's School), who posted a score of 79 in the opening slate of action. She is currently 13th overall in the field of 82 golfers. Classmate and fellow captain Allison Shilling (New Canaan, Conn./Choate Rosemary Hall) is currently 36th after recording an 85 in the First Round.

First year Elizabeth Andrian (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) also shot an 85 on the day to tie with Shilling for 36th overall, while rookies Maggie Kohl (Warrensburg, Mo./Warrensburg) and Stephanie Spitzer (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) were 48th on the day after both recorded a score of 89.

Individually, the Lyons saw two players compete, paced by first year Susan Lee (Irvine, Calif./University HS), who was 13th overall with a score of 79. Classmate Madi Gale (Poulsbo, Wash./Kingston) tied for 60th overall with a score of 96, while fellow rookie Sophia Verducci (Park Ridge, N.J./Park Ridge) rounded out the action in 77th with a score of 121.

Williams holds the current lead after the opening round, followed closely by New York University, which shot a 305 in the opener. Amherst College is third with a 314 score, while Middlebury College is fourth with a 323. Rounding out the top five is Wellesley, which owns a score of 329.

Individually, the invitational is being led by Williams' Phoebe Mattana and NYU's Ashely Tsoi. Both recorded a score of 72 in the First Round.

Second Round action at this year's invitational continues on Sunday with several teams teeing-off at 8:30am. The Lyons will begin their day at 9:20am.
