Golf Finishes 5th at MHC Invitational

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. - The 2015 MHC Invitational, hosted at the Orchards by Mount Holyoke, has concluded and Williams College ran away with the win at this year's event. The Ephs - who are the defending National Champions, posted a score of 605, including a Second Round effort of 298 to blaze past second-place New York University by a 30-stroke margin.

The second-place Violets notched a score of 312 on day two, coupled with a first round mark of 323 for a total score of 635. Middlebury finished with a score of 646 (319-327), followed by Amherst with a 651 (321-330) and the host Lyons in fifth with a score of 667 (330-337).

Earning medalist honors was Williams' rookie Cordelia Chan, who posted a score of 77 on day one, and countered with an incredible score of 68 on day two. She finished with an overall score of 145. Close behind was Phoebe Mattana, also from Williams, who was runner up with a score of 148. She shot a 72 in round one and a 76 in round two.

Finishing in a tie for third was NYU's Kristin Lee (82-72) and Amherst's Kate Weiss (73-81), who both had a 154, while tying for fifth was MHC's June Conti (76-80), and Williams' Elizabeth Gudas (79-77), Tracey Kim (79-77) and Isabella Wang (79-77), all of whom had a 156.

 

For the host Lyons, Conti led the way with 156, followed by juniors Allison Shilling (81-79) and Heeamin Lee (80-80), who both tied for 10th with a combined score of 160. Junior Vladislova Paskova was 57th with a mark of 191 (93-98), while classmate Amanda Lee was 60th with a score of 193 (93-100). Senior Katie Poulin competed as an individual and finished 69th with a total of 212 (106-106).

 

Mount Holyoke returns to the course next weekend when it travels to Vermont to compete at the Middlebury Invitational. Action begins on Saturday and runs through Sunday.
