Rowing Has Solid Performance At Coast Guard

NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Mount Holyoke rowing team had solid performances on the water at Coast Guard on Saturday. The Lyons squared off against the host Bears in a pair of races, earning the win in the varsity eight race.

Finishing ahead of the competition was the Lyons varsity eight A boat with a time of 5:53.3, which was a nearly 20 second margin over the boat from Coast Guard (6:16.0). The crew was comprised of coxswain Leela Woody, Ariya Lawson (8), Elizabeth Hazen (7), Sophie Rabinow (6), Azulina Green (5), Sharlow Hitchcock (4), Susannah Lickus (3), Meghan Ryan (2), and Hannah LeBlanc (B).

The B boat, which placed third in the varsity eight race, notched at time of 6:25.1. That crew consisted of coxswain Zoe Zelkowitz, Halee Mahoney (S), Mira Rosenkotz (7), Emma Taylor (6), Sriya Pradhan(5), Briana Chace(4), Mahirah Mustaffa (3), Nicole Villacres (2), and Mira Kelly-Fair (B) also raced well, finishing third in a time of 6:25.1.

In the novice four race, Mount Holyoke finished second behind the host Bears in a time of 7:36.7. This boat was led by coxswain Maya Sterett, Clare Zicari (S), Mira Kelly-Fair (3), Olivia Vejcik (2), and Amelia Green.

The Lyons will be back on the water next Saturday, competing for the NEWMAC Championship. Action begins on Lake Quinsigamond (Worcester, Mass.) at 8:30am with the fourth varsity eight race and runs through 9:15am with the start of the varsity eight event.
