WEST HARTFORD, Conn.- Sophomore Annika Brooks recorded her second double-double of the season, including a game-best 17 points, but the overall effort fell short as Mount Holyoke College shouldered a 78-49 loss to Fitchburg State University in the consolation game of the USJ Tip-Off Tournament on Saturday. The Falcons are now 3-1, while the Lyons slip to 0-5.

Brooks added a game-best 18 rebounds - marking her fourth game with 10 or more boards - with three steals. She was also named to the All-Tournament Team for her efforts. Junior captain and guard Katlyn Grover added nine points, two boards and two assists, while senior guard Leah Hodges came off the bench to post nine points with five caroms.

For Fitchburg State, Angelina Marazzi had 16 points and a game-high five assists. Catherine Coppinger posted a double-double of 11 points and 18 rebounds to go along with three assists and a game-best six steals, while Emma Thomson had 12 points.

Trailing by a 24-10 margin after the first quarter, the Lyons worked to close the gap as Brooks nailed a jumper at 8:48 to make it 26-12. A pair of three-pointers from Marazzi pushed the Falcons ahead once more and despite back-to-back buckets from sophomore guard Raquel Fitzpatrick and Hodges, the Lyons went into halftime down 45-23.

In the third quarter, an 8-0 run pushed Fitchburg State to a 56-27 advantage. The Lyons went on a 7-0 run, aided by a three-point effort from Hodges to close the gap to 56-32, but the Falcons continued to press for a 59-32 lead after three.

The final quarter saw open a wider margin with a 70-38 lead with 4:56 to play. Senior guard and captain Zahkeyah Allen sank a pair of free throws, while Grover notched seven of the squads next nine points to close out the game, including a three-pointer with 31 seconds left.

Mount Holyoke returns to action on Tuesday when it travels to MCLA for a 6pm tilt.
