WORCESTER, Mass. - Two players reached double-figures to lead the Worcester State University basketball team to a 77-32 victory over Mount Holyoke College in non-conference action on Tuesday. The Lancers move to 2-1 on the young season, while the Lyons are now 0-3.

Worcester State saw Kate Suprenant recorded a game-high 14 points, adding a high of five assists, along with a steal, a block and two rebounds. Kaitlyn Berkel chipped in with a double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds, while Sam Maglione came off the bench to add nine points. The Lancers also saw Brittany Herring post a game-best three blocks.

For the Lyons, junior captain Katlyn Grover had eight points, while senior guard Leah Hodges had six points with three rebounds and a steal. Sophomore forward Annika Brooks came off the bench to record six points and a squad-high eight rebounds with three assists, while classmate and fellow forward Mikayla McEwen had five points.

The home team held a 20-9 lead after the opening quarter, but the Lyons battled back with jumpers coming from Hodges and McEwen to cut the deficit to 35-15 in the second quarter. Despite the momentum, the Lancers continued to roll, closing out the frame with a 42-16 lead at the half.

In the third quarter, a pair of free throws from sophomore forward GraceAnne Woods, along with a jumper from Hodges helped move the WSU advantage to just 65-25 to end the frame. The final quarter saw Grover nail a trey, while Brooks sank a layup, but it was as close as the Lyons could get.

Mount Holyoke returns to action on Friday when it competes in the USJ Tip-Off Tournament. The Lyons will face the host BlueJays of Saint Joseph at 6pm. The winner advances to Saturday's 2pm championship game, while the loser will play in the 12pm consolation contest. Worcester State is also in action on Friday at the Hunter College Tournament where they will face Denison at 7pm.
