Basketball Suffers Setback in Loss to MCLA

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - The MCLA Women's Basketball team extended their program best winning streak to seven games after defeating non-conference foe Mount Holyoke, 68-37 this evening in the Amsler Campus Center Gym.

With the win, the Trailblazers are now 7-2 while the Lyons are still winless at 0-9.

MCLA was led by Courtney McLaughlin who ended with a game high 17 points and 4 steals.  She was joined in double figures by Courtney Pingelski with 11 points and Kayla Hotaling with 10.  Hotaling snagged a team high 9 rebounds.

The Lyons were paced by Genelle Green's team high 11 points.  She added 8 caroms.  Xajaah Williams-Flores ended with 6 points, but grabbed 9 boards.

The Lyons led early on at 9-8 before MCLA bridged a 22-4 run over the first and second quarters to seize command with a 30-13 lead with 5:42 left till halftime.  MCLA wouldn't score over the final 4:02, but they would go into halftime leading 32-18. 

In the second half, the Lyons got within twelve points at 32-20, but MCLA responded with a 12-2 spurt to put away the visitors for good.  MCLA wouldn't be challenged the rest of the way in cruising to victory.

The Trailblazers will close semester play on Saturday at 1pm when they travel to Union (N.Y.) for a 1pm tip off, while Mount Holyoke closes out its semester on Saturday at home in a 1pm game against Lasell.
