Basketball Suffers Road Defeat at Norwich

NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich University women's basketball team saw an all-around effort lead to an 83-29 decision over visitor Mount Holyoke College on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action. The Cadets are now 4-0 overall, while the Lyons slip to 0-4 on the young season.

Junior forward Heather LeBlanc (Sanford, Maine) notched a team-high 19 points and 13 rebounds for a double-double, while sophomore guard Shyann Josler (Thetford, Vt.) contributed 10 points, six rebounds, eight assists and pair of steals. Freshman Aidan Pelish (Hyde Park, N.Y.) would hit a pair of threes to finish the day with 10 points, as junior forward Leanne Winans (Hudson, N.H.) pulled down a game-best 14 rebounds along with nine points and a pair of blocks on the day.

For Mount Holyoke (0-4) , junior guard Xajaah Williams-Flores (Bronx, N.Y.) led the team with nine points and six rebounds to go along with a pair of steals for the Lyons. Senior Siyao Sui (ShenZhen, China) and sophomore Peyton Burr (Fayston, Vt.) contributed six points apiece with Sui pulling down three rebounds and Burr hitting all four of her shots from the stripe.

The Cadets opened the first quarter shooting 52.9 percent (9-17) for the 21-6 lead before adding 20 more points in the second quarter for the 46-12 halftime score. Mount Holyoke, improved the shooting in the third period, hitting 28.6 percent of its marks for eight points before closing out the game with 11 additional points in the fourth quarter as the Cadets tallied 42 points in the second half for the win.

Norwich will return to action on the road on Wednesday, Dec. 2 at Johnson State for a non-conference matchup. Tip-off is slated for 6:30 p.m. Mount Holyoke is back in action on Sunday, November 29 when it opens NEWMAC play at home against Babson at 3pm.
