Basketball Falls to Lasell in Brandeis Tip-Off Tournament

WALTHAM, Mass.- Senior guard Genelle Green posted a double-double, but the Mount Holyoke College basketball team fell to Lasell College in the consolation game of the Brandeis Tip-Off Tournament on Saturday. The Lyons are now 0-2 on the young season. Brandeis picked up the victory in its home tournament.

Lasell jumped out to a 7-0 advantage in the first period and never looked back as they built a 43-27 lead by the break.

Lasell continued to add to their edge in the second half led by senior guard Katie Stopera (Hollis, N.H.). Stopera poured in 30 points on 11-of-21 shooting from the field, including 4-for-7 from beyond the arc. She also contributed six rebounds, four steals, and three assists. Classmate guard Deanna Barrett (Berlin, Conn.) had a team-high eight rebounds (four offensive) and six assists.

The Lyons were led by Green (Windsor, Conn.) who earned a double-double with 14 points and a game-high 12 rebounds (seven offensive). Classmate forward Siyao Sui (ShenZhen, China) joined her in double-digits with 13 points.

Mount Holyoke returns to action on Wednesday when it opens its home schedule against Worcester State at the Mildred S. Howard Gymnasium. Game time is set for 7pm.
