Legare Selected to Play in NEWBA Senior All-Star Classic

KEENE, N.H. – The New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) has announced its selections to the Senior All-Star Classic and Mount Holyoke College senior Amber Legare is among 24 participants chosen for this year's game. The game will be hosted by Smith College on Saturday, March 28.

A senior forward out of Chicopee, Mass., Legare averaged a team-best 16.2 points and 10.1 rebounds per contests as a starter in all 25 games for the Lyons. She also chipped in with 34 assists, 30 blocks and 26 steals, while averaging 34.7 minutes per contest. Legare shot a team-high 66.7% (104-156) from free throw range and also had a squad-best 39.9%  (149-373) mark from the field.

Among the NEWMAC's best, Legare finished the season ranked fourth in points and third in rebounding average. She was also first in free throws made, fourth in field goals made and overall points (404), while ranking third in total rebounds (253). Additionally, Legare was fifth in minutes played per contest.

Legare, who was one of just three players in the NEWMAC to average a double-double during the season, concluded her senior campaign having recorded 10 or more points in 21 of 25 games, including seven with 20 or more points. She posted a career-high 31 points in a 71-61 win over Clark on January 7. Additionally, she pulled down 10 or more rebounds in 14 games, including a season-high 19 in a 70-54 win on January 10 over St. Joseph.

Among the other accolades Legare collected in 2014-15 included becoming just the 12th player in program history to record 1,000 career points. She accomplished the feat on December 9, 2014 in a 50-49 victory over MCLA. In that contest, Legare not only recorded a game-best 20 points with 11 rebounds, but she also nailed the game-winning bucket with one second remaining to give the Lyons the victory.

Other standout games on the season for Legare, who was a two-time NEWMAC Player of the Week honoree, included a 24 point and 14 rebound effort in a 54-52 win at Smith (1/28). She also recorded 29 points with 13 rebounds in a 77-51 loss to Babson (1/24).

Legare, who was a NEWMAC All-Conference Second Team selection, was also an ECAC Division III New England Player of the Week honoree and a three-time NEWBA Weekly Honor Roll selection.

The former Chicopee Comprehensive standout, who was a NEWMAC All-Conference Second Team honoree a season ago, played in 97 games, including 95 as a starter. She amassed 1,270 career points with 881 rebounds, which rank third all-time in program history. She is also third in field goals made (490) and blocks (123).  Legare is also the record holder in rebounds in a game, having recorded 26 in a 68-60 victory over Emerson on February 15, 2014.

Mount Holyoke finished the season with 6-19 overall record. The Lyons went 3-13 in NEWMAC play.

To be included in the NEWBA Senior All-Star Classic, players from around the region are nominated by their coaches and Sports Information Directors. Coaches then select the 24 participants through a vote.
