AMHERST, Mass. - For the Mount Holyoke basketball team, the January break meant more than just practices and games. The additional time off from classes allowed the Lyons to get out into the community and help those in need.

The team worked with the Amherst Survival Center to help stock their shelves during a critical and chilly time of the year. Over a two-week period, the Lyons took a portion of the Monday afternoons to help unload a truck full of food from the Food Bank of Western Massachusetts.

MHC helped unload over 14,000lbs of food furing their trips to the Center, helping the facility keep their food shelves stocked. It was an experience that gave the team perspective on the needs of the community and also instilled in them the drive to continue their efforts of helping out their neighbors throughout Western Massachusetts and beyond.
