SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. -- Mount Holyoke senior Sophia Guziewicz scored her 12th goal of the season, the most by a Lyon since 2013, to prevent a shutout as No. 15 nationally ranked MIT defeated the hosts 7-1 in a NEWMAC game on Tuesday night on the MHC Turf.

Six different players scored for the Engineers (12-3, 7-0 NEWMAC), who captured their eighth win in a row and remained unbeaten in conference play. MIT scored in all four quarters of the game.

MIT scored with 8:25 remaining in the first quarter to take its first lead, on a penalty corner, as Ashley Lederman's shot from the circle caught Lyons senior goalie Rachel Katzenberg's stick and volleyed over her head and into the back of the cage. Eva Oppenheim followed less than two minutes later to double the Engineers' lead with an assist from Janie Thomas.

Another Oppenheim goal in the second quarter gave MIT a 3-0 lead at the half, and the Engineers made it 4-0 four minutes into the second half, as leading scorer Ingrid Tomovski registered her team-high 13th goal.

Guziewicz (Claremont, N.H.) got Mount Holyoke on the scoreboard one minute later, when she connected on a close-range shot out of a crowd in front of the MIT goal. Guziewicz's 12 goals are the most by a Lyon since Diana Banmann scored 15 goals in 2013.

MIT responded with two more goals before the end of the quarter for a 6-1 lead. Thomas netted her second goal to cap the scoring in the fourth quarter.

MIT outshot Mount Holyoke by a 27-7 margin and had a 17-5 advantage in corners.

Katzenberg (Reisterstown, Md.) made 16 saves for Mount Holyoke. For MIT, Maeve Zimmer made two saves against one goal allowed in 45 minutes. Anna Duncan played the final quarter and made one save.

Mount Holyoke plays at Wheaton on Saturday at 12pm. MIT will host No. 7 Babson Saturday at 1pm in a battle of first-place teams.
