SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. -- Marisa Montione had a goal and two assists and Paige Forester added two goals to her league-leading total, leading No. 12 nationally ranked MIT to a 6-0 NEWMAC win at Mount Holyoke College on Saturday.

MIT (9-3, 4-1 NEWMAC) outshot Mount Holyoke by a 46-3 margin and enjoyed a 25-1 advantage in penalty corners.

The host Lyons (3-8, 0-5 NEWMAC) played outstanding defense for the majority of the game, led by sophomore goalkeeper Rachel Katzenberg's career-high-tying, 17-save effort. Katzenberg had 11 saves in the second quarter alone, helping the Lyons hold MIT to within two goals at the half. She also made a sprawling save on a penalty stroke awarded to Laura Schwendeman early in the fourth quarter.

Senior captain Phoebe Aaronson (Mountain View, Calif.) and senior midfielder Laurissa Montigny (Enfield, Conn.) contributed to a determined defensive effort to limit Forester, the skilled 6-foot-0 forward who entered the game as the NEWMAC leader in goals (11) and points (23). Fending off an array of backhanded shots, Katzenberg made six saves against Forester alone.

First-year Taylor Vettori (Etna, N.H.) and sophomore Sophia Guziewicz (Enfield, N.H.) both recorded defensive saves in a stout team defensive effort.

Montione got the scoring started in the ninth minute, as she corralled an entry ball from Erica Radler and shot it past Katzenberg with her back to the goal.

While MIT pelted the Lyons with 16 shots in the second quarter, after 14 in the first quarter, the Lyons kept the score at 1-0 until the 21st minute. Marissa Liu fought for control of a loose ball inside the circle and nudged it toward Forester in front. Forester made one move on a defenseless Katzenberg and scored for a 2-0 lead.

Mount Holyoke held MIT scoreless for another 14-minute stretch, until Montione received a long insert from Alice Zehner and launched a bounding ball toward the right post, where Liberty Ladd volleyed it past Katzenberg in the 35th minute.

The Engineers scored again on a penalty corner in the 40th minute, with Montione passing across the top to Bailey McIntyre for a slapshot and a goal.

The score remained at 4-0 until the final 3:31 of the contest. Sophomore Eva Oppenheim ended the stalemate with an unassisted marker and then on a penalty corner, Forester scored on a pass from Carly Briggs with 51 seconds remaining.

Mount Holyoke will next play at Springfield College, Tuesday at 7pm.
