Malboeuf Strikes Twice to Lead Field Hockey to a 4-1 Win Versus Clark

South Hadley, Mass. - October 2, 2021 - Junior midfielder Mollee Malboeuf (Fitchburg, Mass.) found the back of the net twice while senior Phoebe Aaronson (Mountain View, Calif.) scored her first goal of the season and classmate Margaret Robb (Summit, N.J.) scored her fifth goal of the season as the Mount Holyoke College field hockey team defeated New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) competitor Clark University, 4-1.

With the win, the Lyons are now 2-5 on the year and earn their first victory in NEWMAC play, improving to 1-2 against league opponents. Clark falls to 2-8 overall with an 0-3 record in the conference. In net, first-year goalkeeper Rachel Katzenberg (Reistertown, M.d.) held strong, making five stops to bring her to a total of 62 saves this season. Katzenberg's 62 saves now puts the first-year No. 4 in the NEWMAC.

Mount Holyoke College held a 26-7 shot advantage over 60 minutes of play, including a 14-3 margin in the first half. The Lyons were also granted 11 penalty corners to the Cougars' three.

Mount Holyoke got on the board just 6:09 into the contest when Robb fired a shot on cage from just outside the arch, finding the stick of Malboeuf who tipped the shot past Sawyer for the Lyons' first goal of the contest.

The hosts pushed their lead to a pair just 54 seconds later when Malboeuf sent in a penalty corner that was stopped by Robb, before Aaronson came through and delivered a blast from the top of the arch that sizzled through the Clark defense to make it 2-0 with 7:57 to play in the first quarter.

Mount Holyoke College made it 3-0 just 2:22 into the second quarter when Robb gathered a ball on the right side of the field before carrying the ball to the middle and ripping a shot past Sawyer.

The two sides battled until the fourth quarter when Clark score their first goal just 2:38 into the frame. On the goal, Greer McCarty found Autumn Golding who snuck a shot past Katzenberg for her first goal of the year. With 1:22 remaining, Malboeuf responded, scoring her second goal of the game, leading the Lyons to earn their first conference win of the season. After Malboeuf sent in a penalty corner to Robb, the senior played a shot on net, which was stopped by Sawyer. The rebound deflected to Abby Baldwin (Florence, Mass.), who slipped a pass to Malboeuf on the back door for an easy finish, sealing the victory for Mount Holyoke.

Up next, Mount Holyoke College will stay in NEWMAC play as the Lyons travel to Smith College on Tuesday, October 5 for a 7 p.m. contest with the Pioneers.
