Worcester, Mass. - November 2, 2019 - Playing its final regular-season contest of the 2019 season, the Mount Holyoke College field hockey team fell to WPI, 3-1, at Alumni Stadium on Saturday afternoon in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play. 

With the loss, the Lyons are now 9-9 on the year with a 3-5 record in league play, while the Engineers improve to 16-2 on the year with a 6-2 mark against NEWMAC opponents. Following the game, Mount Holyoke College earned the No. 6 seed in the upcoming NEWMAC Championship Tournament and will return to WPI, which earned the No. 3 seed, on Tuesday, November 5 for a Quarterfinal contest.

In Saturday's contest, WPI held a 17-4 shot advantage, while the Engineers were also awarded eight penalty corners compared to the Lyons' two. In net for the Lyons, senior Morgan Turner (Chester, N.J.) finished the contest with three saves.

After a scoreless first half of play, the Lyons got on the board first as Kylie Brooks (Oceanside, Calif.) notched her fifth goal in the last four games just 4:07 into the third quarter to give Mount Holyoke College a 1-0 lead. On the goal, junior Mirei Golding-Powers (San Francisco, Calif.) ripped a shot on cage from the right side, which was redirected into the back of the net by Brooks to give the Lyons a 1-0 advantage.

WPI would even the game just 4:39 later as Carly Cidado (Easton, Mass.) ripped a shot on cage, that was originally saved by Turner, but the senior picked up her own rebound and found the back of the net to make it 1-1 with 6:14 to play in the game. With under a minut to play in the third quarter, WPI extended its lead to a pair as Abby O'Sullivan (Walpole, Mass.) tipped in a shot from Shannon Hynes (Auburn, Mass.) to give the Engineers a 2-1 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

WPI dominated much of the play in the final stanza, and finally got an insurance tally as Cidado notched her second goal of the contest when she pulled a loose ball out of a scrum in front of the net and blasted a chance past Turner to give the Engineers a 3-1 lead with 7:32 to play.
