CHANDLER, Ariz. – The 2018 Longstreth/NFHCA Division III All-Region Teams have been announced and two Mount Holyoke College student-athletes were recognized on the All-New England East Region squad. Colby Newsham was a First Team honoree, while Mirjam Keochakian was tabbed to the Second Team. This is the first All-Region honor for Newsham and the second straight recognition for Keochakian.
A senior midfielder and captain from Harvard, Mass., Newsham started all 19 games for the Lyons in 2018. She recorded three goals and six assists for a total of 12 points, while also adding 25 shots - 10 shots on goal for a .400 shot on goal average. Among the highlights to her season included scoring a goal in a 3-1 win against Westfield State (9/11). She also scored the game-winning tally in a 4-1 win against Smith (10/23) enroute to garnering NEWMAC All-Conference First Team honors.
During her 2017 season, Newsham started all 18 games, recording nine goals with six assists for 24 points. In addition to 24 shots - 18 on goal – she also notched a game-winning goal. Among the highlights to her season was a five goal effort in a 10-4 win over Westfield State, which saw her tie the program record for goals and points in a contest to earn NEWMAC Offensive Athlete of the Week recognition.
As a sophomore, the former Bromfield School standout started all 19 games, posting five goals with three assists for 13 points. Newsham had three game-winning goals and went 1-of-2 on penalty stroke attempts. During her rookie season, she started all 22 contests with six goals and three assists for 15 points.
Newsham started all 78 games of her career, tallying 23 goals with 17 assists for 63 points. She recorded 116 shots, 72 on goal, while adding seven game-winning goals. Newsham concluded her Lyons career ranked 16th all-time in career goals, 11th all-time in career assists and 13th all-time in career points. She has also been a multiple NEWMAC Academic All-Conference and NFHCA National Academic Squad honoree.
A senior midfielder and captain from Hamburg, Germany, Keochakian started all 18 games while recording three goals and one assist for seven points. She posted 41 shots, including 21 on goal for a .512 shot on goal average. She also boasted a team-high five defensive saves and was a NEWMAC Defensive Athlete of the Week honoree.
The former Deerfield Academy standout, who was a NEWMAC All-Conference Second Team selection in 2018, notched nine goals with nine assists for 27 points as a starter in all 18 games during her junior campaign. In addition to posting 62 shots, including 43 on goal, she had three game-winning goals and three defensive saves. Among her top efforts included notching a hat trick in a 6-1 win against Clark and tallying the game-winner in a 3-0 shutout over WPI (10/28) on her way to earning NEWMAC All-Conference First Team honors.
As a sophomore, Keochakian started all 19 games, recording six goals with seven assists for 19 points. She went 1-of-1 on penalty stroke attempts, while ranking second on the team in goals, assists, points and shots. A multiple NFHCA National Academic Squad member and NEWMAC Academic All-Conference honoree in her collegiate career, she played in 20 games during her rookie season, recording two assists.
Keochakian finished her Mount Holyoke career having played in 75 contests, including 74 as a starter. She amassed 18 goals with 19 assists for 55 points. She also notched 159 shots, 97 on goal, while adding four game-winning tallies. Keochakian also made nine defensive saves in her career while going 5-6 on penalty stroke opportunities. Among the team's record holders, she ranks 10th all-time in career assists and is 19th in all-time career points.
Mount Holyoke concluded its season with a 9-10 overall record. The Lyons finished 4-4 in the NEWMAC, advancing to the conference tournament for the 20th straight season. MHC shouldered a tough 2-1 loss in overtime to Smith in the NEWMAC Quarterfinals.
