Field Hockey Powers Past Westfield State, 3-2

WESTFIELD, Mass. - Senior forward Charlotte Wagner tallied a pair of goals to lead the Mount Holyoke College to a 3-2 win over Westfield State University on Wednesday evening. The Lyons move to 10-6 on the season, while the host Owls are now 11-6 overall.

Mount Holyoke got the scoring started early as Wagner scored on a top of the circle pass into the right side. The score remained the same until the 34:09 mark when the homestanding Owls grabbed the equalizer. Off a pass from Holly Brouilette from the left side, Alanah Melanson centered it and fired it past the Lyons keeper.

In the second half, the scoring ramped up as junior midfielder Sophie Perekslis knocked a shot in at the right post at 44:29. Wagner made it a 3-1 advantage less than four minutes later after she found the ball off a scramble in front of the net, putting it past goalie Megan Fountaine.

Westfield State bounced back, pulling the score to within one at the 50:32 mark, sending in a rocket shot into the top left corner.

MHC, which posted a 26-12 advantage in shots, saw goalie Liz DiCesare post seven saves. In the Owls' goal, Fountaine notched 16 stops, while defender Alexa Whitney had a defensive save.

Mount Holyoke returns to action on Saturday, concluding its regular season schedule at Wheaton in a 1pm match.
