WATERVILLE, Maine - Powered by a pair of second half tallies, the Mount Holyoke College field hockey team defeated Thomas College, 2-1 in non-conference action on Saturday. The Lyons move to 2-3 with the victory, while the Terriers are now 2-4 overall.

Trailing by a 1-0 margin after the opening 35 minutes of play, MHC was finally able to grab the equalizer less than three minutes into the second stanza. Earning a penalty corner, the ball came out to sophomore midfielder Mirjam Keochakian at the top of the arc. She sent a pass onto the stick of senior forward Charlotte Wagner, who buried it to tie the contest at 1-all.

Mount Holyoke, which held a 6-3 margin in penalty corners for the half, took advantage once more in the circle as a perfectly placed ball once again landed on the stick of Keochakian. This time, she connected with sophomore midfielder Colby Newsham, who buried it in on the left side for the go-ahead goal at 57:49.

The Lyons held a 17-5 advantage in shots for the game, including an 8-2 edge in the second half. Despite several opportunities, they were unable to put another one past Terriers keeper Abbie Charrier. She finished the contest with eight saves.

Thomas opened the game's scoring at 24:35 after senior forward Gabby Martell injected the ball in on the penalty corner. Her effort was corralled at the top by first year forward Kelsi Faulkingham, who launched a shot in on net. Martell was there to put it in past Lyons' keeper Liz DiCesare for the 1-0 advantage.

MHC's DiCesare earned the victory, making two saves on the afternoon.

The Lyons return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Wesleyan for a 7pm contest against the Cardinals. Thomas also returns to the field on Wednesday, welcoming Bates for a 6pm tilt.
