Riding Opens Spring at Winter TOC; Lyons Place 6th Overall

FREDRICKSBURG, Va. – The Mount Holyoke College Riding Team returned to action on Saturday, taking sixth overall at the 2019 Tournament of Champions Winter Classic II at the University of Mary Washington. In the field of 16 teams, the Lyons came away with 23 points to wrap up the 2018-19 TOC schedule. 

Sophomore Sara Hearn opened action for MHC with a good round in Open Fences, unfortunately finishing just out of the ribbons. First year Piper Lacy was up next in Intermediate Flat, where she had a lovely ride for a fifth-place finish. Next, sophomore Sinead O'Sullivan rode beautifully in Walk-Trot-Canter, securing the first blue ribbon of the day for MHC. 

Lacy returned to the ring next for Intermediate Fences, where she had a great round to finish fourth. Senior Emma Recchi was up next in the flat phase of the TOC High Collegiate Medal, where she laid down a wonderful ride but unfortunately did not progress to the fences phase. 

Sophomore Christine Xiao made her Tournament of Champions debut in Walk-Trot, where she had a gorgeous ride and picked up the blue ribbon. 

Next up was the TOC Low Collegiate Medal as sophomore Libby Sams rode beautifully but unfortunately did not progress to the fences phase. First year Faith Wang then also made her Tournament of Champions Debut in Novice Fences, where she had a very strong ride to finish just out of the ribbons. 

Junior Franny Eremeeva rode next for MHC in Open Flat, where she had a gorgeous ride for a fifth-place finish while first year Sierra Dunn closed action for the team today in Novice Flat, and she rode beautifully to also finish fifth. 

At the end of the day, Mount Holyoke finished up in 6th place out of 16 teams by winning a tiebreaker.
